Who is Grandfather Harlowe from Clarissa and what is their importance?

Grandfather Harlowe passes away before the novel begins. His will, however, which is generous to Clarissa above all others is a source of contention in the Harlowe family. As a result, Arabella and James set out to right the worng they believe has been doen by ruining Clarissa and gaining her inheritance.
