Mauro is the entrepreneur who is apparently supporting the International Geographic crew on their quest to search for the Beast. In truth, he's planning to have Dr. Torres inoculate all the natives with a deadly form of the measles virus so that they will die, leaving the way clear for Carias to mine the region for its wealth of natural resources.
