The mistletoe is a symbol of desire. Jared never shows any jealousy when Gina is dating Alex, but he does show that he desires her. After Gina tells Jared that she will not be seeing Alex anymore, Jared surprises her twice with a sprig of mistletoe, a statement that he wants a kiss from her.
