Burnt Library represent?

The burnt library symbolizes the rejection of the Dark Muse by Briony, even though she was unaware of the Stepmother's real identity. By burning her creations, however, she also burned all of the history of the Old Ones essentially sending them into a frenzy, as they need to have their history on paper in order to live past their imminent death.
