Violet represents the unfavorable trait of not recognizing that there can be too much of a good thing. She chews gum all day long, to the exclusion of all other activities. Veruca represents the unfavorable nature of a spoiled child. Augustus's character acts as a warning against gluttony, and Dahl uses Mike's character to suggest that too much screen time can do a child harm.
