What happens when Cross stops at the Sojourner Truth School and waits until Christine comes out to her car?

Cross is driving past the school and sees Christine's car. He waits until she comes out, feeling vulnerable about her response to him. When Christine sees him, she is at first distant, but Cross persuades her to talk honestly about their feelings for each other. She is worried about his line of work. He reassures her that he will live a long time, and then they kiss for the first time.
