What does Cross discover when he enters the room Soneji uses as his sniper location?

Cross discovers that Soneji has left the door unlocked. He fires at the tarp where he believes Soneji is hiding, but when Cross lifts it up, Soneji is not there. The rifle is set on an automatic timer.
