Jim has a mustache. Jim says that whenever his mustache twitches that it is certain that whatever hunch he has is certain. It represents certainty. When Jim has a hunch that Joy is dead and his mustache twitches he chooses to ignore this hunch. The majority of the other times Jim pays close attention to his mustache.
