The conversation at the bus stop symbolizes the indistinct and overwhelming nature of memory. Louisa converses with a man at a bus stop in London, Ontario. Due to her state of disorientation, she believes the man to be Jack Agnew, and she speaks of Arthur. Only later does she realize that the man was actually Jim Frarey. This juxtaposition draws these three male characters into close thematic comparison, mixing her memories of them into a thematic examination of their roles in her life.
