Red is the color of blood and therefore of lifeblood, but it is also the color of violence, danger, and potentially, death. In “Caroline’s Wedding,” red is used symbolically to suggest the violence, bloodshed, and suffering of Haiti’s history, and, ultimately, the land of Haiti itself.
