Who is Magpie from Canyons and what is their importance?

Magpie is Coyote Runs' friend. Magpie is a few years older than Coyote Runs, therefore he has gone on raiding parties before Coyote Runs. It is Magpie who tells Coyote Runs of his chance to go on a raid. It is also Magpie who rides at the back of the pack with Coyote Runs. When the soldiers attack, Coyote Runs' rides behind Magpie and sees him shot by one of the soldiers. It is this event that convinces Coyote Runs he can die and that his life is in danger.
