Who is Coyote Runs from Canyons and what is their importance?

Coyote Runs is a fourteen year old Apache Indian. Coyote Runs has been invited to participate in his first raiding party. Coyote Runs is excited because he knows that this will officially make him a man in the eyes of his people. Coyote Runs does well on the raid. However, when the raid reaches its conclusion, the party runs into a soldier patrol and are chased through the canyons near El Paso. Coyote Runs tries to make it to a secret medicine place that he knows where he knows the soldiers will not be able to find him. However, Coyote Runs is shot in the ankle and cannot make it to the medicine place, so he hides. Coyote Runs' blood gives away his hiding place and he is killed.
