Who is Helen Jewett from Burr and what is their importance?

Helen Jewett was a prostitute. Charlie Schuyler met Helen at Mrs. Townsend's brothel and quickly fell in love with her. Helen didn't return the sentiment but agreed to live with Charlie after learning she was pregnant. A miscarriage, however, immediately ended the arrangement, and Helen returned to prostitution. In the end, Helen was murdered by Richard Robinson, one of Mrs. Townsend's clients.
