Why does Dilip's mother send a pandit to perform a wedding ceremony between the narrator and Vishnu?

Dilip's mother had seen an astrologer who essentially told her that the narrator's bad energy would kill her son. So, she sent a pandit who performed a ceremony between the narrator and Vishnu so that Vishnu could absorb all of her bad energy before she married Dilip.
