What is the theme in Buried Child by Sam Shepard?

I think the failure and illusion of the American dream is a big theme in this play. In this dark vision of the American Midwest, Shepard presents the disintegration of the American family and suggests that, as a culture, Americans have wealth but a lack of values and morality.
