What is the setting of Brothers and Keepers: A Memoir by John Edgar Wideman?

The setting of Brothers and Keepers takes place mostly in Western State Penitentiary where Robby serves a life sentence. The prison is located on the outskirts of Pittsburgh. John must drive through the Homewood Avenue ghetto, his childhood home, to get to the prison.
