The "House" is important because most of the characters in the novel are connected with the house that the murdered couple lived in. It is Eleanor, Karl, and Irina’s new home, Sam babysits Irina there, and Louis and Joe often visit to determine if what they seek has returned to the home of the couple they killed. The house serves as a point of connection for all of the major characters of the novel.
