The story begins with Griffen taking rooms at The Coach and Horses. Why did Wells begin the story here, and not the experiment that rendered Griffen invisible?

I think Wells wants to build a mystery about who the strangers might be first and then invite the reader into another more sinister mystery; Griffin's invisibility.
