This novel is set in the real world, though it is an alternate version of the real world where creatures such as vampires and werewolves exist unbeknownst to humans. The novel occurs primary in Forks, Washington, but Bella and Edward enjoy their honeymoon on Isle Esme, a private island off the coast of Brazil. The characters in this novel are mostly vampires and werewolves, though there are a few humans. The Volturi, the vampire police, play a large role in the novel also.
