Who is Max Goldstein from Bread Givers and what is their importance?

Max Goldstein is the wealthy man who is a friend of Fania's husband, Abe. He is well-dressed and Sara immediately feels at home with him but soon realizes there are many things about him that she does not like. He does not see the need for her to continue with school and spends almost every minute talking of his real estate investments. She says he is caught up with the need to make money and then to spend it having a good time.
