Is the ending to Brave New World at all optimistic? For any of the characters?

This really depends on your point of view. I tend to think it isn't very optimistic. I wanted John Savage to shatter this whole twisted society. John however does not have that power. He isn't the second coming of Christ, despite the Christ imagery, and he cannot live in a world with no sacrifice and love. John has to kill himself. Bernard was no charismatic John Savage. He is banished which I do not see as optimistic for that society.
