In Brave New World people are interested in seeing John because he is an oddity. He has been born instead of decanted like most. He doesn't act like the rest of them and doesn't take soma. His mother has been one of them and they find her repugnant. The act of being a mother is considered an obscenity, and she is 'real'; hasn't had any surgeries to keep her looking like everyone else. She is old and worn and looks like it.
