Jenna is a nineteen-year-old college student at Somerset University near Boston, Massachusetts. She is a pre-medical student and plans to have a career in forensic science after completing her education. She works for Dr. Walter Slikowski as a part time pathology assistant at the university's Medical Center. Jenna is a serious student and is dedicated to her work.
On spring vacation, Jenna and her roommate and best friend, Yoshiko, decide to go to Captiva Island near Fort Myers, Florida, for a week. Her boss has to remind her that she's supposed to have fun on her vacation and that she needs to leave school and work behind. Jenna hates to fly even though she's flown all her life with her single mother who is also a doctor. But after a white-knuckle landing, Jenna and Yoshiko are ready to soak up the Florida sun and leave more serious things behind.
