What metaphors are used in Brain Trust by Christopher Golden?

The Atlantic Ocean is a metphor for danger and death. Jenna and Yoshiko rent jet-skis and bounce and crisscross over the waves of the Atlantic. Later, they are in a fight for their life as Yoshiko pilots a boat at full throttle through the dark waters with the assassins tailing them in a bigger and faster boat.
