What is the main conflict in the novel, Born in Shame?

Shannon Bodine's world is shattered when she discovers that her family life has been a lie. The man she knew as her father and who raised her, Colin Bodine, is not her biological father. Her real biological father is Thomas Concannon, an Irishman with whom her mother had an affair years ago. This sends Shannon into a tailspin about her family life, and about who she really is.
