Who is Mark James from Body of Evidence?

Mark James is Kay Scarpetta's love interest. The two were romantically involved fifteen years prior to the start of the novel. After hearing about Beryl Madison's murder, James reconnected with Kay, telling her that he was relocating, and also that his law firm had dealings with Madison.
