Young Claude and adults seem to relate to each other in a positive way. Mr. Weisfeld, the music store owner, sees promise in Claude's musical ability. Al Johnson, the maintenance man of a high-rise, befriends Claude and splits the money earned from collecting soda bottles in the garbage. The maestro allows Claude to practice on his grand piano, and the maestro's wife and staff look after Claude when he comes for lessons.
