What is the author's style in Blue Is for Nightmares by Laurie Faria Stolarz?

The books is structured in 35 chapters. Each chapter is an event that has certain significance in the way the story progresses. Although the first chapter describes Stacey's nightmares only in general through the way they usually occur and their most significant content with the next chapter being a flashback where Stacey's grandmother hands gives her the amethyst ring, all other chapters progress as events develop.
