Samantha "Sam" Sharpe is the daughter of Jackson Sharpe, one of the most famous movie stars in the world. She is pretty by most standards, but feels like she is fat and ugly compared to the other women of Beverly Hills and is constantly on a diet. Sam goes to high school with Anna and the two work on a film for class together that is a big hit among the other students. Sam asks Anna to help her create a real film, with Sam as director and Anna as writer. Sam tries to swoop in on Adam Flood after he and Anna break up and accidentally tells him that Anna is already with Ben Birnbaum. She feels bad about airing Anna's dirty laundry, however, and apologizes to Adam and Anna.
Sam and Anna become closer friends as the book progresses. When Anna is framed for leaking secrets about one of the stars of "Hermosa Beach," Sam helps Anna find the real culprit and exact revenge. Anna tries to cheer Sam up when a hot guy from a cast party hits on her in order to get in good with her father. Sam shows talent as a film director, demonstrating her creativity on a class project and then coming up with an idea for a future film that she wants to make with Anna.
