Who is Miss Flite, and what is her interest? What is the significance of her birds?

Miss Flite is not mentally stable, and is obsessed with the daily litigation of Jarndyce vs. Jarndyce. Her collection of caged birds will be set free when the lawsuit is resolved. The birds are symbolic of the lives that are affected, sickened and ended by their entrapment in the ongoing lawsuit.
