The death of Raven, Kittredge's favorite horse in "Into the Fold" is a symbol of her cumulative sadness, anxiety, and homesickness—feelings she normally does her best to hide from the other girls at the boarding school. When Kittredge has a panic attack in response to Raven's death, she learns via the note that Eloise Sheen shows her that she has not been successful in hiding these feelings, and consequently the other girls view her as a "weirdo" (139).
