Who is Dave Robicheaux from Black Cherry Blues and what is their importance?

Dave Robicheaux is a former policeman, widower, and small business owner in New Iberia, Louisiana. Dave dreams of his wife often, dreams full of encouragement, dreams that encourage him to cease drinking and take care of their daughter. As a former alcoholic, Dave is predisposed to burying his grief in drink. Over the course of the novel, he helps a friends in a murder investigation, which leads to threats against his daughter, and is subsequently arrested.
