What is the setting of Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks?

Birdsong is set in the real world in Europe. The specific settings alternate between the seven parts of the novel. Part 1 is set in France in 1910, and Parts 2, 4 and 6 are set in France during World War I, in 1916, 1917 and 1918 specifically. Parts 3, 5 and 7 are set in England in 1978 and 1979.
