Value of the writer as person is a recurring idea in this book. For Anne this began when her father shared a John Glenn poem with her second grade teacher. He valued it enough to share it with someone outside the family. Anne, in turn, felt valued when adults and students alike admired the work. This experience was valuable enough to accomplish two things in Anne's life. The first caused Anne to begin to consider writing as her life's work. The second thing it accomplished was leaving a lasting impression on Anne. Though she is many years removed from second grade, she still included this experience in this book.
