The novel is written in modern-day American English. Most of the main characters are teenagers, meaning there are conversations that include slang. These words and phrases are fairly generic, meaning most readers will understand the meaning. For example, Liz uses the phrase “My bad” to express an apology. The overall language is very casual. The novel is divided into narrative and dialogue. Because of the many scenes that are Liz's observations, there is more dialogue. The dialogue is reasonable for the characters' age and situation. There are also sections of texts between the various characters. These text messages are presented without quote marks. A couple of the texts include emojis.
