Who is Blind Benny in Belle Prater's Boy by Ruth White?

Blind Benny was born without eyes, and is known as the "sin eater" in Coal Station, Virginia. Benny is poverty stricken and subsequently taken in by the owner of the hardware store, Amos Leemaster, who provided for Benny in his will, so he would always have somewhere to live.
