Mr. Hosokawa is an important businessman from Japan, who is also an avid fan of opera and the voice of Roxane Coss. Throughout his life, Mr. Hosokawa has been a tireless worker. He is a husband and father, and though he is a good provider, his family isn't very important to him.
Before the terrorists take over, Mr. Hosokawa thinks of his life in terms of success. During his captivity, however, he will come to realize how many things he still needs to learn. He cannot read music, despite his intense love of opera, and he cannot speak English. In the end, Mr. Hosokawa is killed by an errant bullet that is meant for Carmen.
