How does Lotte change over the course of the movie?

When we first meet Lotte, she seems innocent and unassuming. She puts up with all of Craig's moods and treats the animals in their home like her own children. However, after entering Malkovich and being with Maxine, Lotte loses sight of the rest of her life and begins to fight Craig for Maxine.
