Explain the setting of Beautiful Boy

Most of the books’ events took place in the state of California. When Nic was born, David and Vicki were living in Berkeley. After the divorce, Vicki went to live in Los Angeles. After David and Karen married, they moved to Inverness. Nic attended school in California until graduating from high school. Nic left California multiple times during his years of addiction, but he spent most of his time in California.
