Traditionally, juniper has been used in cleansing rituals, and the night that the narrator visits Robin’s empty house with friends, she notices the juniper tree in the garden. This becomes symbolic of the narrator being cleansed by seeking forgiveness in coming to visit the house of Robin after she has died just hours before.
