Robin is a representation of what happens to someone who tries to avoid committing to one side or the other. In Robin’s case, this is out of fear for himself, as he has spent all of his life trying to survive in a world that he does not feel he belongs in. Yet, his attempts to bridge the gap between his heritage and his life at Oxford means he loses himself and his convictions. Ultimately, Robin shows how important it is for people to remain true to themselves, regardless of what the world tells them they should be.
