Griffin Lovell is Robin’s half-brother who attended Babel before him. Like Robin, Griffin was born to a woman from China and taken by Lovell to study in England. However, because he was removed from his home as a young child, he did not develop true fluency in his native language which made it difficult for him to silver-work. Later, it is revealed that Griffin accidentally killed his friend, Eveline, after she betrayed him and Hermes. While he deeply regrets this, his trauma led him to believe that violence is the only thing that the English will listen to. At the end of the book, Griffin is shot by his old friend, Sterling, and killed by the police after he tells Robin to run. This is what convinces Robin to follow through with Griffin’s plan to take Babel and cripple the country by destroying it.
