Who is Anthony Ribben?

Anthony Ribben is a Black, post-graduate student who was in the same class as Griffin, Eveline, and Sterling. He is the first one to introduce them to Babel through a detailed tour. Eventually, it is revealed that Anthony was a slave up until the abolition and was only truly freed when Babel bought it so his Master would not take him to America. This means that Anthony is incredibly critical of Englishmen and believes that none of them will do anything out of sympathy for others. Letty later proves him right when she betrays her friends to save herself, leading to Anthony’s death and the fall of the Old Library portion of Hermes.
