Anthony is the antithesis of Griffin in that he represents the argument for peace. Despite everything he has suffered throughout his life, he sees violence as theatrical rather than practical. He does not want to sacrifice innocent lives to make a point. His search for coalitions and lobbying represents that, and it is made clear at various points in the novel that others have done this successfully. Therefore, even though Anthony’s plan is ultimately not what succeeds, it is still a reminder to the reader that there can be a peaceful revolution if given the opportunity.
