Professor Jerome Playfair

Professor Playfair is the chair of the faculty at Babel and the one who first explains why the Institute accepts foreign students. While he does have some clear racist tendencies and does not seem to consider anyone outside of Babel, he does seem to be more genuine than Lovell and is clearly excited about his linguistic studies. However, Playfair later reveals his true self when he tries to trick Robin into revealing what happened to Lovell and that he supports the war in China.
