How does Julio Cortazar use imagery in Axolotl?

Cortazar uses primordial imagery in "Axolotl." The narrator/ protagonist reiterates
that to his way of thinking the salamanders are not human beings, but that they are not animals either. In comparing the two, he insists on the positive value of the animal. This is a recurring theme in Cortazar's fiction.
