The place with a collective name Rand uses for the socialist businesses is in ruins. Almost nothing is left of it. Even the roads leading up to it are in ruins and they puncture a tire getting there. Among the ruins Dagny finds parts of an unfinished motor and a manual describing the principle behind it. The motor is revolutionary and could have been of great benefit to the world. In destroying itself through socialistic management, it also destroyed an incredible invention.
