Assata Shakur, born JoAnne Deborah Byron, tells the story of her life as a Black revolutionary. Because of her involvement in radical Black groups, Shakur was accused of many crimes ranging from bank robberies to murder. Because of a lack of evidence or conflicting evidence, she was acquitted of many of the charges against her. Eventually she was convicted of murder and sent to federal prison. She managed to escape from prison, and she now has political asylum in Cuba.
