What is the theme in Assassin's Quest by Robin Hobb?

One major theme in the novel is that of sacrifice, as illustrated by the main character's willingness to sacrifice in order to attain the greater good. Fitz gives up his love foor Molly, as well as his dream of a peaceful existence, in order to save his home from the Red Ships.
