What happens to Fitz and Nighteyes as the caravan begins to cross the river?

As the caravan begins to cross the river by means of a rope pulley barge, several men fall upon Fitz to capture or kill him. Nighteyes attacks one of the men and kills him, but in the process of the attack, falls into the freezing river and is swept away. Fitz is captured, but through his Wit connection with the wolf, knows he is injured but still alive.
